In the afternoon of 10th Nov 2015, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Zhejiang University(BMS) organized a Welcome Talk with New Lecturers. BMS has recruited more than 20 new lecturers in the past 3 years.
CPCC chairman and associate dean of the BMS, Professor SHAO Jimin, chaired the meeting. First he welcomed the new members of the academic staff to the department and asked everyone to do a short self-introduction. After that, Dean of the BMS, Professor OUYANG Hongwei asked the new members to appreciate the Zhejiang University Culture, progress with times, perform individual responsibilities, and seize opportunities. Coming from his own personal experience, Prof OUYANG encouraged new staff members to learn more about the history of Zhejiang University and its progress with times, understand the University’s methods of nurturing talents and its departmental structures, leverage on Zhejiang University’s platform to seek more opportunities. He said: “Teaching duties of the Basic Medical School should carried out by academic staff with high research aptitude.” He wishes that every staff member should find their respective role in the department that suits their personal strength. They should also keep learning and improving their research and teaching abilities and contribute to the development of the department. Lastly he said that the teamwork and cross-field research collaborations are of upmost importance. He also stressed the importance of publicity and it is crucial to let the general public and different sectors of the society to know about the research and development happening in the department.
Associate Dean of the BMS, Professor KE Yuehai, reported the current status of research at the Basic Medical School. The report focused on the structure and division of responsibility within the research teams. Following that, Associate Dean, Professor WANG Qingqing, asked the academic team to follow the teaching guidelines of “Good Students, Good Programmes, Good Teacher”. She hopes that the new members should quickly become a part of the larger team and take ownership and responsibility towards the development of the undergraduate programmes. Secondly, she also did a brief introduction to the department’s teaching plan and that everyone should seek opportunities and take pride in taking up their teaching role.
Following that, Professor SHAO explained the department’s human resource policies and answered any questions regarding staff’s benefits, position, reviews, recruitments and promotion. He wished that new academic staff should focus on personal performance, learn from past examples, be honest and put in the hard work to advance his/her career one step at a time.
